Engineering

Engineering is the first service of Durrat Al Khaleej, where our engineers use mathematics and sciences such as physics to find the best solutions to a problem, or to make the improvements a site needs. Our engineers are required more than ever to hold the sciences relevant to our projects' design, so we keep expanding that knowledge through new dynamic solutions and enhancements.

With multiple options open to them, our engineers develop different design choices on their merits and select the one that matches the client's requirements. The crucial and unique task is to identify, understand and interpret the constraints on a design in order to produce a result that works. Building something that is technically successful is not enough on its own — it also has to meet the requirements around it.

Constraints may include other resources, physical, imaginative or technical limits, room for modification and addition, and factors such as cost, safety, marketability, predictability and serviceability. To understand them, our engineers derive specifications for the limits within which a viable object or system can be produced and operated.

Procurement

Procurement is the second service, and it takes in handling and delivery, marginal benefit and price fluctuation. Our team makes buying decisions under scarcity, working from good data and applying economic analysis such as cost-benefit or cost-utility analysis.

Where risk is involved, in either the benefits or the costs, expected value comes into play — and we draw an important distinction between analyses without risk and those with it.

Based on how the goods and services will be used, our procurement activity splits into two categories. Direct, production-related procurement covers everything that becomes part of a finished product: raw material, components and parts. Indirect, non-production-related procurement covers the operating resources the company buys to keep its own operations running.

Construction

Construction is the third and final service. Only once the engineering design and the procurement are complete does actual construction commence.

This is the process of preparing the work and forming buildings and building systems. Construction starts with planning, design and financing, and continues until the structure is ready for use.

Far from a single activity, large-scale construction is an achievement of human multitasking. The job is managed by our project manager and supervised by our construction manager, design engineer, construction engineer or project architect.

For successful execution and delivery we put great emphasis on effective planning. Part of the design and execution is weighing the requirements, the environmental impact of the job, scheduling, budgeting, construction site safety, and the availability, transport and logistics of building materials.
